My Cat is a Bus — Short Clip

Here is something for the fans of Yun Yun. Live action Catbus! Our cat Yun Yun’s favorite activity is to be outdoors. She will wait by the door and meows continuously to go out and play. I usually give in to her cute persistence and let her have some outside time. Thanks to the overwhelming responses to Yun Yun as the Catbus, we have decided to make a short film of our little star, following her adventure. In her famous costume and our backyard serving as a Totoro enchanted forest, Yun Yun roams through the garden, magically appearing and mysteriously vanishes. She is definitely calling all the shots. A very short while of filming, her wardrobe malfunctions and that is the halt of production. Watch it here: https://vimeo.com/58519325 Hope you enjoy this clip! I wonder where this Catbus will take us to next!

Thank you 2012, Hello New Year

blog2012

Thank you 2012 for all the wonderful memories! Early in 2012, we went on an amazing Asia trip and came back with our busiest year of weddings ever. It was sure worth all the hard work because our film of Tony and Kevin’s Tahoe wedding went viral and is featured on BuzzFeed’s “16 of the Most Beautiful Weddings of the Year”. It even got subtitled in Chinese and English by super international fans! We are so happy everyone is sharing this message of love and hope.

I also like to thank you everyone for making Yun Yun’s Catbus so loved! She now has her own Facebook page, like it here. There will be an update on her soon:)

With our busy year of work, I am grateful for the time to spend with my lovely friends, family, and cats. All the delicious meals, fun day trips, and great stories, I hope will continue. In 2013, we want to simmer down the wedding workload and focus on our personal interests and career. So hopefully, more time to blog for me:) Most of all, I want to thank my sweet boyfriend for completely spoiling me, cooking and packing me lunch every single day! This year my resolution is to cook a lot more and …. get my wisdom teeth pull out.

My cat gone viral

Do you often check your viewer stats on wordpress? Occasionally, I’ll glance at the bar graph knowing that it is pretty consistent. So recently, I became aware of a sudden huge spike over Thanksgiving weekend, increasing to thousands number of visitors for my cat Yun Yun’s Catbus costume. From the looks of it, my pictures are being massively shared on Facebook, Tumblr, and Plurk, with most traffic coming from Taiwan! Whoa, my cat went viral and an international cat sensation! You can read my original post: My Cat is a Bus

There are so many sites sharing, that it’s hard to keep track. Here are a few screenshots where I’m getting all this attention:

people2.com.tw facebook page – Over 7K likes and 4K shares!

http://hak-ka.tumblr.com – Lovely layout of my photos:)

It’s so crazy seeing her cute face everywhere when I go on Google search. And even more crazy how information can spread so fast through the wild world wide web. Here I’m thinking, it’s just me and my computer talking. Anyways, I am overwhelmed and ecstatic for the all the likes, spreading the joy, and thank you for all those who credited me for my work because that is very important to me. Enjoying the 15 minutes!

Also in other good internet news, my company Ipomoea Films is featured on Style Me Pretty California. During springtime, we filmed an absolutely beautiful DIY wedding in Sonora, California at the Union Hill Inn. Our bride and groom are really the best people you’ll ever meet and I am so happy to see their wonderful wedding featured. See their lovely wedding pictures by En Pointe Photography and our sweet wedding video highlight here: http://www.stylemepretty.com/california-weddings/2012/11/27/sonora-wedding-at-union-hill-inn-from-en-pointe-photography/

As for Yun Yun, we are keeping her humble and not letting that inner diva get over her pretty little head:) Again thank you all for liking my work!

Spring in Napa

Happy Spring! During the weekend, we spent a day in Napa photographing a sweet couple for their engagement session. It was a bit chilly, but a beautiful day! At this time in Napa Valley, there are fields filled with yellow mustard flowers! Just lovely! This is a sneak peak for our couple, check out more of our recent work on our facebook page: IpomoeaFilms

At the same time, March 20th is Macaron Day! Lucky enough, while we were in Napa, we stopped by Bouchon Bakery in Yountville for some wonderful macarons!

Our favorite, oddly, was the banana flavor. It has a slice of caramelized banana inside the filling. Surprise:)

Blossoming Almond Trees

During March, the almonds trees come to blossom and they make a lovely scene of soft white petals. California grows so much almonds. You’re able to see rows of blossom trees driving on I-80 around Dixon and Woodland. I am lucky enough to live close to them and eat fresh almonds all year long. They might be my favorite nut! As you may know, I blog a lot about orchards and farms…well I love it out there! Yip and I stopped by one of the orchard and it was a dream come true to run around ’til sunset in such a beautiful sea of flowering trees. Blossoms are sweet like snow flakes, without the cold and wet. Definitely a romantic place to be. Perfect for an engagement session! Just let us know if you like a photo shoot!

Also I just found out this Sunday, March 11 is the Capay Valley Almond Festival. I have never attended and unfortunately I made plans this year too. It’s an event that seem interesting to me, so if you’re there, let me know how it goes.

In the meantime, I’ll enjoy the sight of my kitties and the blossom tree outside my window:)

Ipomoea Films Halloween 2011 Studio Photos

Every year on Halloween, our community host an event called the Halloween Treat Trail. This is to provide a safe environment for kids and families to go trick-or-treating in Downtown Davis. Businesses participate in the “Trail” and pass out treats. We always love seeing the little ones in their awesome costumes. They are just so cute! Also many families are very creative with their costumes too!

This year, our company Ipomoea Films decided to participate and give back to the community by having free photos for our trick-or-treaters. What a better a way to remember such a fun event than with a kick-ass photo of yourself dressed up from head to toe! This was our very first time creating a photo booth in a public event. Lots of planning went into it and we are so glad that it was such a great turn out! Many people gave us positive comments and that is very encouraging. Thank you! We are very happy with the outcome and hope to do it again next year!

Big thanks to Indigo Architects for letting us use their creative space.

California State Fair 2011

California State Fair is here! Our schedule has been quite busy lately and there are so much activities and editing to do. We were contemplating whether we should go or not, and I’m so glad we did! The weather this week is in its 80s, sunny and a little breezy, which is perfect for walking outdoors. What I like about the state fair in comparison to other theme parks is the variety of attractions, such as animals, rides, exhibits, live shows, competitions, and yep the FOOD! Everything is deep fried and on a stick! And there are many interesting creations too like raccoon on a stick?! By far the most scary sign I saw was “Deep Fried Butter”! Aside from the weird stuff, we saw a lot of typical carnival food like funnel cakes, cotton candy, and corn dogs. We went Friday after work and I was pretty tired from the day. But once we arrived, I was so excited about our fantastic unhealthy dinner! I got the energy to last through the night!

A very popular item at the fair is the Turkey Leg. This is a huge smoked turkey leg smothered with bbq sauce. Definitely the tastiest thing we ate at the fair: cooked perfectly, fresh, moist, and big!

I also like the Catfish on a Stick and deep-fried artichoke hearts. The Giant Blooming Onion looked like a lot of fun, but it was too greasy and there was not enough dressing.

Here’s our Cherry Icee to wash everything down!

We were pretty full and grease out, so we explored other parts of the fair. The farm animals are so cute and you can get really close up to them. People bring their best animals to the state fair for prizes.

Before we knew it, the sun was beginning to set. We spent some time at the ferris wheel, games and rides section. I love looking at  all the lights and design of the rides. Given that there was no peer pressure, I opted out on participating in being locked up in any torture spinning and scary height dropping machines. Yep I’m chicken >_<!

One thing I recommend seeing at the state fair this year is the Big Bug Exhibit. Very cool giant robotic bugs!

Even though we were having fun and relaxing on our day off, Yip wanted to do some filming. So stay tuned for some short clips!

We ended the night watching fireworks before the state fair closed.  Overall, I enjoyed all the novelties of the carnival. Food was overpriced, but expected. Had more fun this time than few years ago. Didn’t have enough time to see everything, but I’m extremely happy spending date night with my sweetie. What a fun-filled Friday night and a great start to the rest my weekend!

There is still time to go! The California State Fair runs from July 14-31, 10am-10pm at the Cal Expo in Sacramento. $12 general admission + $10 parking.

Ipomoea Films Photography

Ipomoea Films is our photography and cinematography company. We provide wedding photography and videography services through out the Bay Area, Sacramento and Napa Valley. What I love most about this work is that I learn about so many different culture in tradition, food, and celebration. It is great getting a glimpse of our happy couple’s love story. We are able to capture lovely moments and create wonderful personalized films. If you haven’t seen our work, please check out our website: http://ipomoeafilms.com/

When we’re not filming and editing weddings, we like to continue improving our skills and do artistic studies like our still life series. In this series we collected ornaments from various places around Bay Area and Sacramento Valley.  Also with the help of our friend Wendy, she loaned us many beautiful, precious, and full of history art pieces for our still life project. One of our goal is to develop a foundation of color matching. Another goal is to capture the most natural form of each subject and combine them together. And lastly, the balance between the subjects and open space.
